October 2008

I did this image for an assignment in class and everyone thought the darker one was too dark and that the wax paper was weird. I don’t think the wax paper is weird really, but maybe its because I did it. I did another version of the tools without wax paper and on a white background. Which do you like better the black one or white one?

in STILL LIFE

I have a ton of little out takes from my beauty shoot of mostly soaps.
I guess when I first looked over them I really didn’t like them too
much. I kinda still don’t like them a whole lot but I do dislike them a
lot less. Here are the randoms:

…with green tea cheesecake!

Here are some images and a recipe for green tea cheesecake with mint and raspberries. I coped the recipe from epicurious, and changed the amount of matcha. I also have some suggestions about match as it is kind of a hard thing to find.

Matcha is finely ground green tea leaves. If you want good matcha, go to a specialty tea store and buy some there. DO NOT buy it at trader Joe’s (sorry Joe!). The matcha latte powder or whatever the have going on there has a lot of sugar, which good matcha should not have, and green food coloring! Which is really weird, because if you had green tea leaves then it would be green right? They are just adding a bunch of other stuff, and not using very high quality ingredients. Matcha should taste like green tea, not sweetened green tea or something. Anyway, so get good matcha, it makes a difference. This recipe says you can use ground tea from tea bags, theoretically that is the same thing, but its not. Go buy matcha.

Here is the recipe I used from epicurious. I added more matcha, and didn’t make the tisane because I didn’t think it needed it, although it probably would have been really good.

Ingredients:
1 cup (generous) ground shortbread cookies (about 6 ounces)
2 8-ounce packages cream cheese, room temperature (do not use whipped or “light” products)
1/2 cup (packed) fromage blanc*
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
4 large eggs
2 tablespoons of matcha ( I really like to taste the tea)

Preheat oven to 325°F. Press cookie crumbs firmly onto bottom (not
sides) of 8-inch-diameter spring form pan. Wrap outside of pan tightly
with 3 layers of heavy-duty foil. This is a really important step. Go and buy the extra long tin foil and wrap it really really tight. Using electric mixer, beat cream
cheese, fromage blanc, and sugar in large bowl until smooth. Add eggs 1
at a time, beating until incorporated after each addition. Beat in
green tea powder until smooth. Pour batter over prepared crust in pan.
Place cake in roasting pan; add enough hot water to roasting pan to come
halfway up sides of spring form pan.

Bake cake until set but center moves very slightly when pan is gently
shaken, about 1 hour. Remove cake from roasting pan; cool 1 hour at
room temperature. Refrigerate uncovered overnight. (Can be prepared 2
days ahead. Cover and keep refrigerated.)

The end! Cheese cake is so good. Yummmmm

hi!

in STILL LIFE

I’m back again after a long break. I moved into my new apartment, which I really like. The cats however, didn’t really appreciate the move and escaped into the heater and went into a crawl space. I thought they were gone, but now everything is good. I shot some interiors yesterday with some great anthropologie bedding. Oh how I wish I could have kept it. I’m going to Arizona this weekend to hopefully find some great props. Its nice to have internet and start blogging again.

Why am I happy? I got my computer back, and its amazing. Its like new. I’m so excited. I started not even going on the internet with my back up computer because I would get that spinning ball of death every five seconds. Anyway, I am back to normal, and so happy about it. Here are some towel shots I did last weekend. Also one random beauty shot. Did I tell you guys I am moving? Yep. I’m excited yet not really. As I type this entry, I am staring at all the boxes I will eventually have to move, and all of the stuff im my kitchen I have yet to pack. Ugh. I really don’t like moving. Yet, I am still excited to move into this new place that has hardwood floors! Woo. I have wanted an apartment with hardwood floors since I moved here and this will be my first.
It also has amazing windows and amazing light, which should hopefully make for amazing pictures.
I also have more room to shoot and not feel too cramped. AND more room for props!! The props are taking over my apartment now, so I’m glad they can move to a new home. Basically, I sold all my furniture because I didn’t want to move any of it, or it would not fit the way I envisioned. So it will also be a fun re decorating project also. I will most definitely be sharing pictures when I get the place to a good point. Woohoo.

Apple computers that is. I love mine, except when it breaks. The case on my computer broke and was eventually going to crack my screen so I needed to get it fixed asap. I went to one apple store and they said they would not cover it. So I cried, at the apple store. I don’t really know what came over me, maybe it was the fact the tech told me it would cost $1,200 to fix. The tears just came, and it obviously made the tech uncomfortable. I left that apple store, and then went home and thought about what I was going to do. I decided to just go and try another store, see what they had to say. Turns out, another store, another teach, agreed with me and covered it. Go team! So now I am using my old laptop which sucks, a lot, until my baby comes back, hopefully early next week. I am shooting towels right now, and I can’t see my files in bridge or photoshop because they are raw, and I’m using an old version of programs. Its really annoying. So this week may be little or no posts because I can’t process my images. I just thought I would give you guys a heads up, if anyone actually reads what I write. Ha!
